“There is a mysterious cycle in human events.
To some generations much is given.
Of other generations much is expected.
This generation...has a rendezvous with destiny.”
U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt - 27 June 1936
It may be reasonably said that logistics is a map of human intent. In order for humans at individual or collective scale to meet their needs, certain mechanisms – logistics – must exist to enable the production and movement of the goods that will fulfill the need. The pattern of assets used, routes traversed, geographical and physical constraints, and goods carried will inevitably reveal the intent and the needs of the stakeholders.
From this heuristic, we can make a clear-eyed assessment of the tangible factors shaping the future, today. Fortis Analysis is a different breed of strategic advisory entity. We are not a policy shop that schemes up clever excuses for Congress to spend more of the taxpayers’ money. We are not a think tank where foreign countries and transnational corporations can launder their messaging through white papers and insider networking.
We are a collective of gifted amateurs, subject matter experts, and curious laypeople collaborating to develop supply chain, manufacturing, and policy solutions that solve for the challenges to come in a post-Westphalian era of declining nation-state dominance and private sector disruption.
The real cost to be a part of this experiment is not a subscription fee or toeing a company line - it is knowing that the system may well prevail, and working to chart a new course regardless.
This is not a painless path to take. The easy path to influence and wealth is to ingratiate oneself to those with the power of the purse. However, this is not the path to shaping a future that reinforces liberty. Public and private entities worldwide stand at the precipice of an epochal moment, many of whom will choose the centralized, authoritarian path to maintaining “stability”. Further, at the geoeconomic level, a choice must soon be made by all stakeholders to join a U.S.-led sphere of economic cooperation, a China-led sphere, or opt out to whatever extent is feasible.
On the surface, these times are analogous to the U.S.-Soviet Cold War. Yet, the coming decades are altogether different, as the two great powers of today are economically entangled such that a violent disassociation would pose an existential threat to both. Thus, most of this new Cold War will be fought at the nexus of commerce and war - the “Gray Zone”. The implications of this are extremely meaningful to nations, corporations, and citizens alike. The new path that must be charted for those who reject authoritarianism is one of harnessing the ingenuity of individuals at collective scale, while empowering them to live as freer and more prosperous people.
Fortis Analysis is, above all, a generative force that pursues and implements effective supply chain and policy solutions which reinforce the natural rights of all people, everywhere: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
In our regular newsletters and podcasts, we will cover the subject matter-specific and geopolitical topics that shape the supply chains for individuals and nations alike. We will devise strategies and tactics that harness the creativity and vision of many disparate minds and imaginations. We will do what humans have always done in times of crisis and fear: rise to the challenge at hand, and prevail.
And although Substack is mainly intended for independent content creators to monetize their output, much of Fortis’ public work product will be freely shared.
That being said, the real action will be behind a (nominal) paywall. A small barrier to entry, demanding a tiny little bit of skin in the game for those who wish for their voices to rise above the din and clamor of social media’s public square, and to network with like-minded individuals from all walks of life and nationalities. Paid subscribers will receive updates on various projects being facilitated by Fortis Analysis, direct access to the team and community, and a half-hour of one-on-one supply chain consultation with Fortis’ founder.
Paid or not, however, we are beyond grateful for your time and attention, as these are perhaps the most valuable things a person can part with.
Finally, words of hope and wisdom issued during Western civilization’s longest night:
“Do not let us speak of darker days: let us speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days; these are great days — the greatest days our country has ever lived; and we must all thank God that we have been allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our race.”
Sir Winston Churchill - 29 October 1941
Our great days begin now.
Dum spiro spero,

We are blessed to live in a time where the challenges are many, but the road ahead is clear, and the resolve of men to take it uncompromising.
